OOC games might be more readily played, but they won't matter...
if as you say, all that you have to do is win your division or even a 4-team pod to make the playoff. Sounds lame to me. The OOC becomes NFL preseason if they don't count for anything.
Also, I don't quite agree that G5 teams haven't come close to winning in all. There are years that Utah and Boise weren't given the chance with unbeaten teams to play in the BCS title game. They would have had a solid shot at winning it all if there was an 8-team CFP. Especially Utah under Urban Meyer.
And you are making this sound like it's good business for the G5 schools to start their own division. This may or may not be true. But I'm sure that they want to make this decision on their own, not have it forced on them by the big boys.
And one other thing. If there is 4x16, what current P5 schools get left out? And do you think they (and their 2 senators) are going away quietly?
