Power, influence,.

and money are all very important and the measure of that importance is how it translates to a competitive advantage that ultimately translates to the fields or courts. The ACC is unlikely to ever challenge the B10 or SEC in terms of stadium sizes and fans in the seat which means they start at a disadvantage from a revenue and bowl negotiation perspective. However, depending upon how things might change that built in advantage could be lessened if the football playoff system moves closer to the basketball model. There are a lot of things still in play with TV, the bowls and playoffs that if they were to change could significantly impact the revenue streams and how they are distributed. The things working in the ACC favor at present are on field performance and geography. The true power and influence arises when the competitive landscape on the field translates to a have/have not situation being created among conferences. It killed the Big East because of no football, it has damaged the Big 12 with conference members leaving and left the other four as the most likely survivors currently. At present, neither the SEC or B10 have been able to leverage their revenue advantage to a have/have not advantage over the ACC or PAC 12 on the field. The question, if the Big 12 implodes, is how that impacts the balance of power. What I am saying is that true power, influence and riches in terms of evaluating a conference's position and stability may not be as easy as looking solely at how much money it makes.
