Its the college experience
We always bitch and moan about the NCAA screwing the kids over by not actually giving them a college education, and instead using them to line their pockets. Here is something that UM is doing to actually educate them outside of the classroom by exposing them to foreign cultures and customs. Sure, playing paintball doesn't make any sense but this is supposed to be, or as I am seeing it, a study abroad for these kids. When I went as a VT undergrad to our study abroad for architecture school what do you think our days mostly consisted of? It wasnt us with our heads buried in text books and lectures. It was us walking around looking at buildings, taking pictures, and experiencing a whole new world, usually after a bottle of wine...or two.
What I am trying to say is that this is a once in a lifetime experience for these kids, one that they probably could not do because of their football commitment, and it should be looked at in that light, not as an NCAA violation
