Being drafted late gets them in the door, but...
They all have a long road ahead of them to make an NFL roster. A spot on a team is guaranteed to no one, even first round picks, but coaches and other player personnel will think long and hard before they release a first or second round pick, and even a third and fourth round pick, because those picks are valuable commodities. The team's decision makers invested those valuable picks in the players taken early in the draft.
Players in the 6th and 7th rounds and UFAs are not viewed that way. In fact, better teams like the Patriots rarely have space for later round players on their roster (TB12 being a notable exception). If drafted in the later rounds, hope to be drafted by a crappy team.
Just the same, best of luck to all the Hokies.
