You used that word twice, and the choice of that word seems really odd to me. So he didn't get picked. I'm sure he's bummed about that. Big deal. Now he can go the UFA route, which is probably better in some ways. He made the right decision for him...and just because he didn't get drafted, that doesn't mean it was the wrong decision. The reality is that he almost certainly wasn't going to get drafted next year...even if things went great for him during the '17 season.
