Vegas Update
Hey guys, wanted to catch ya'll up on our 3 days in Vegas last weekend. We were represented by 4 Juniors and 2 Senior level guys...The weekend started a little weird, as Jarrett Degen was not allowed to compete because of an infected pimple(we know it didn't make much since to us either) but USAW stuck to there initial diagnosis and Coach Robie and I couldn't change their mind. From there Andrew Dunn had his eyes opened, and did not show his true capabilities, and he knows that and will be better for it, going 0-2. Andrew Mehrholz wrestled tough, and will continue to improve in hopes of making some noise at 141 lbs, he finished 2-2, with some encouraging wrestling going on. David McFadden, wrestled well, qualified himself for the trials, and have no doubt he will make adjustments and climb that podium and be much better in 5 weeks. He was right there to win in the Semis, but on a 50/50 call he got the lower half and did not bounce back for his consi semi, but like I said, will be better for it moving forward.
Moving on to Seniors...Ty wrestled really well, making weight with ease and then wrestling seasoned veterans on the Sr. level tooth and nail. His upside is so big, and gains are coming everyday, and like David, he will build and be better in 5 weeks, and his future on the Sr. Level ladder is endless!
Frank wrestled awesome through the prelims and Semis, but came up a bit short in the Finals against Oliver. Frank knows he is the man at that weight and will make the adjustments moving forward...He will most likely see Kennedy/Retherford winner in mini tourney finals and then best 2/3 in Trial final.
All in all a great weekend moving forward, especially for the staff and the group that was out there.
Back in Blacksburg now, as most the guys are getting into Finals week and finishing the academic year off strong while getting workouts where we can. If any of you find yourself in the area, please don't hesitate to stop up in the wrestling room as we will now focus on University Nationals in 4 weeks, and Jr/Sr trials in 5 weeks. I will try and post a University National Roster next week. Talk soon Hokie Nation....
