I remember being offered free VT tix to every game.

I was a kid, but I remember VT being a second tier program in a second tier league. Heck, I vaguely remember VT prior to the BigEast.

Anyhow, that in no way excuses our being somewhere between 40th and 45th in the college athletics arms race. Thanks to the likes of Frank Beamer and Mike Vick, Virginia Tech is now a household name. We're one of the top brands in college sports, at least top 20. We've got the ratings and bowl attendance to prove it. Things have changed more at Virginia Tech then perhaps any place the last 25 years. However, the ACC has held us back if anything. I was quite happy to get an invite, but we are $20 to $25,000,000 behind other similar programs due to our league. Clear as day for anyone who looks at the numbers. Consider this, West Virginia makes as much money from sports as all but three ACC schools. Virginia Tech's ten million behind THEM. It's only beginning to show in our recruiting levels. Insiders other places are sending up the emergency flares now and letting us no we can no longer REALLY compete for the top players. The signs are there. This isn't sustainable. A handful of ACC schools can weather the storm. VT's not one of them. We don't have the stadiums and focus FSU and Clemson have. UNC, Duke, etc have plenty of money to put together 15 man basketball teams. UVA just has a ton of money in general.

We're starting to take on water here. Be prepared. PRIMARY cause is the ACC. To get us in the ballpark of the Iowa's and South Carolinas of the world, we're gonna have to complete that Drive for 25K, and each of those 25K is gonna have to pony up about $1000 more than they currently do. We could do it THAT way, or we could do it the easiest way and demand more from our league.
