Their last championship was 1988 (29 years ago)

2036 is only 19 years away. So if they could not win a championship over 29 years, I have no reason to believe they can over a 19 year period. Times have changed, and ND has not adjusted. Football independence may be a pride thing for ND, but it is a detriment to finding a path to a national championship. The Bowl Alliance began in 1995 and would later develop into the BCS, which has morphed into today's Playoffs. These changes began in 1995, and since then ND has not performed that well. While others were adjusting to the new landscape of college football, ND stayed independent. Since 1995 ND has gone 4-11 in bowl games. In addition they lost in 1994 in the Fiesta Bowl. And the four wins were in the following bowls: Hawaii, Sun, Pinstripe, and the Music City Bowl. That is not exactly a prestigious list of Bowl victories. I understand their desire to stay independent, but I honestly think it hurts their football program. College football is centered around conferences in this era. Recruits today don't remember the glory days of ND football, and there is no indication that recruits will see a return to those days.
