It was a great deal for ND, they got what they were looking for.

I'm just saying that it has been a good deal for the ACC. No, the SEC would not have done the deal. Yes, the ACC wasn't as strong or stable at the time. But that is part of my point. The ND deal was something that added some strength to the ACC. It wasn't the biggest thing, but it was a plus. The bigger improvements were GOR, and improved play on the field (thanks in part to some good coaching hires).

Your statement that, "A full-member Notre Dame would've brought more to the table.", I fully agree with that. And I am also not a big fan of 14.5 members. But a full-member ND was never an option, no matter how much pressure the ACC put on ND. It just wasn't going to happen. However, this deal has been a plus for the ACC, and for VT who got to beat ND at their field this year. That game would have never happened without this deal. Plus, ND visits Blacksburg in 2018. We play them again in 2019 and 2021. If they were in the Atlantic division of the ACC like Clemson and FSU, we would not get to play them nearly as often. There are a lot of positives to the deal, more so than negatives. They were not joining the ACC for football, it just wasn't going to happen. They would have gone BIG 12 or AAC first for other sports.
