You make a lot of sense in that there is no coordinated effort...
with the assumed P4 (assuming P4 takes shape like many have posted). I saw your post about there possibly being unequal numbers in every conference. Your thought on that is probably the most realistic.
And like you, I feel like there are 15 or so other deserving G5s that should be in the Power equation (mostly from the AAC and MWC). I'm a realist and know the 5 existing Power Conference are not going to invite many or any G5 schools. The B1G and SEC are heavily dominated by large flagship and land grant universities, and I can't see those 2 conferences adding the likes of Cincinnati, Memphis, Houston, etc. Also, the academics of some deserving G5s aren't look upn favorably by the Power conferences as well.
I know it probably won't happen, but a Power 6 with a merger of the majority of the AAC & MWC seems fair. It would be nice to see the Big XII stick together as losing a Great Plains football identity just seems sad to me. It'd be great to see the Big XII add 2 more schools to have a legitimate CCG. It would also be nice to have a 6th Power conference with 12 AAC and MWC members who I feel belong in the conversation. Then the Power structure can go to an 8-team playoff with 6 conference champs and 2 at-large. Who knows, maybe ND gets to remain part of the playoff equation as an independent with a P6 model.
But.... I'd love to throw it all away and go back to the 8- to 10-team conferences. I really miss the regional rivalries. Greed, ego and ESPN are ruining a once great sport IMO.
