Yes. To your last point, if I had my way, I'd do 7 conferences.


All small enough to play round robin.

Big Ten (original)
ACC (original)
Big 8 (OU, Nebraska et al)
SWC (A&M, UT, Arkansas et al)
Pac 10
Big East (PSU and the former eastern schools)
SEC (original)

all with some room adaptation to modern realities and a bit of room for growth (adding a G5 school) if they choose.

8 team tourney. 7 champs. 1 at large for either an independent, a P7 runner up, or a G5 school (chosen by a committee).
