Agreed, that's a big step in a 15+ year improvement plan.
If we go back to the beginning days of HokieCentral, the goal was to maintain football strength enough to get in a stable conference environment then focus on the non-rev's. There have been some starts and stops along the way, but this is a significant measure of success.
UVA's goal has always been to be a top non-rev's school and allow that reputation of excellence to raise the rev-sports. That probably was a factor in attracting Bennett, it hasn't worked for football yet (and probably won't with Mendenhall). They've taken some non-rev hits this year, women's golf took a huge step back, I believe their LAX hasn't performed well and they just lost two tennis coaches (one of which was the best tennis coach in the country).
