I was at that 2000 WVU-ND game. It was pretty tame.

Unless you were there and personally experienced something like you describe, I actually doubt it happened. There just isn't any pre-existing animosity between WVU and ND that would spur battery throwing. Personally, I don't recall there being a whole lot of excitement or angst about that game. WVU wasn't a particularly good team that year.

The legend of WVU fan behavior is greater than the reality.

The fact of the matter is that if you are a Pitt fan, an old-time Penn State fan, a Marshall fan or a Tech fan from the 2001-2005 era, you very well may have experienced some bad stuff in Morgantown. A couple visits by Miami and Maryland would have been rough.

Otherwise, a visiting fan to Morgantown is likely to experience some drunks much like many other schools, but genuinely bad experiences are not nearly as common as the legend suggests. Certainly, in the past 10 years, the behavior has cooled down quite a bit.
