better to leave when you're on top for many reasons rather than wait for
the sudden slip and big fall.
i was an instant fan last year when they went up against the Goliaths and won it all. (love rooting for the underdogs; have all my life)
when you're on top you
(a) have more contract/hiring negotiation leverage;
(b) notoriety;
(c) compared to some cases less pressure;
(d) more suitors to choose from;
(e) bigger ponds looking for you to come be their boat's head fisherman;
(f) more ops to start anew with a quality program rather than recovering from your own fall;
(g) you can see big ops better from top of the hill and make leaps, rather than scratching to take small steps up from a limited view from bottom;
(h-z ) plus, i'm sure there's more...
i mean, what are the odds a "relatively small college" (no disrespect, is it even a university?) can continue to put up World Series-talent-level teams year-end/year-out especially considering their conference's competition level?
if we could pry Gilmore from the current coastal honeymoon and love-fest, he would be a very valuable HC to us.
