We're bringing in some speed next spring.

Sammi Miller and Darby Trull are fast, athletic and both left-handed batters. Expect slap hitting to be back in Blacksburg.

Cana Davis' bat has power. I don't know that much about SS Casey Barrett but she helped her team (Atlee) to a 5A state championship last Saturday. I know that she's very athletic.

IMHO, we're bringing in Scot Thomas' best recruiting class in a long time. If 3B Chelsea Whitcomb and SS Caitlan Nolan can be 100% healthy, that will improve our team. Emma Strouth and Breanna Davenport are proven hitters. Olivia Lattin will get better. Jessie Mehr played much better at 1B than at SS (replace Nolan after her injury). Carrie Eberle can pitch but she has shown some offensive power when she got the chance to bat. We'll have 5 pitchers (2 of them top high school pitchers in state this year). Scot Thomas will have 5 left-handed batters (Davenport, Miller, Trull, Hannah Jones, and Ashley Kowalski). All we need is a catcher. If freshmen pitchers Jordan Dail and Keely Rochard adapt early to D-1 batters, we could have a very good season. I also expect Eberle and Taylor Barnes to improve in their sophomore seasons. I honestly expect the 2018 team to make the NCAA playoffs. That talent is as good or better than what UNC or Louisville had this season.

Correction: Davenport is also a left-handed batter.
