Bluebloods aren't simply defined as a National champion...

They are the schools that the sports media constantly talks about. So you are exactly right in assuming UM is a blueblood.

For football, the bluebloods are USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, FSU and Alabama. Even in their crap years, they still get the best recruits and every year the sports media has them ranked in the top 25 or at least give them tons of air time.

Other football programs close to being bluebloods are Nebraska, PSU, LSU, Florida and Miami. Those programs have had their moments in the sun and could be relevant at any time.

The basketball bluebloods to me are UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas and UCLA. Runner ups are Syracuse, Georgetown, Michigan State and Arizona.
