NokieHokie is correct that speed is indeed tangible. We know what that speed is and it can be measured. However, as you said, there are other factors besides speed that make a good football player. If we can't figure out how to use his speed (ie: we judge he isn't good in space, doesn't have good ball skills, is not agile/quick enough), that speed doesn't really help us.
