It just seems to me that the majority of the cost is in the initial measurement and then if a specialized mold or tooling is required, then that cost is absorbed by the initial purchase. Multiple copies would then be at reduced costs as it would simply be materials and labor for manufacture.

The support staff at VT is currently already installing the current issue of protection into each helmet so I do not imagine the installation would increase the cost dramatically for multiple helmets.

Without knowing the specific details referred to in the article, I have a really hard time understanding the "prohibitive" cost associated with multiple helmets per player. Perhaps the devil is in the detail so to speak but the detail is absent from the article.
