Our All American HS QB had fractured his skull in an auto accident
The coaches were looking for a way to get him back before the season ended, as we had a history of winning/competing for state championships. Didn't work out, but that year he recovered and became an All American in high school basketball and later was an All American guard in basketball at Roanoke College. Hell of an athlete, named Hal Johnson, Jr. Nobody could throw a pass like that guy, not even the All American successor, Eddie Joyce, Jr, who became a starting QB at Tech as a freshman and set the record for worst loss ever, 77 - 6 to Alabama. Eddie Jr died a couple of years ago unfortunately.
