Re: Academics of the SEC are much better than academics of the Big XII.

List of reasons from this board that Texas will choose to not join conference X:

Brand control
Don't like SEC academics
Does not want to be treated as equals
Won't give up the power they have
ESPN's influence over Texas
Snobbery in Austin

I may have overlooked some. ESPN's influence over Texas is only as great as the LHN contract, which I believe allows Texas to move to another conference if the new conference is willing to buy-out ESPN. These others amount to less than a hiccup.
Texas will likely join the SEC or the B1G when the Big 12 flops. Oklahoma and Kansas are leaving. Texas will have also lost: Nebraska, Texas A&M, Colorado and Missouri. They could remain in the Big 12 and be the Supreme Emperor over a collection of leftovers with no monetary appeal to the TV networks. They would still be able to raise huge amounts of money thenselves, but will the UT administration be content living in a low rent neighborhood, when so much more is available to them.
When Oklahoma moves, there will be intense interest from the other conferences and TV networks. UT's bargaining power will never be greater. If they decide to stay where they are, the other conferences will find equalibrium without Texas. Texas might be accepted by any conference in the future, but the urgency of the suitors will have waned.
