My grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's in the end.

It started with a fall. She couldn't get up and was on the floor in her house for about a day. My dad got her to a doctor who said the physically there was no reason she shouldn't be able to stand. She never stood again on her own. I guess her brain forgot how to send the signals to stand up. All she kept doing was apologizing for the burden she felt she was becoming. She lived with my aunt until it was clear that there was no way to give her the care she needed. So, my dad and aunt found her the best place they could afford that was nearby so she could have found the clock professional care. The times I visited her there, there's no way I could tell you if she knew me or not because she refused to speak. Eventually, she refused to eat. At that point, it seems she had had enough and within a month was gone. Same thing happened to my great grandmother, though she hung on longer. Terrible disease and one I know my dad fears.
