Evans was an great runner, but certainly not a lightning in a bottle guy

Evans had 3 things that pushed last year's VT to success.

1. Leadership
2. Rushing ability
3. Good deep ball

Evans was never able to read a defense or go through progressions, which is why you saw a ton of slow starts if the opposing team managed to take away the 1st read. Those game normally devolved into read options to suck the safeties in enough for Ford or Hodges to break a big play. Evans (and Rogers) were good enough leaders to stop the team from cratering when down early.

If Fuente's past QBs struggled it's because they were learning the system. I think Fuente as a coach has matured enough to realize if a QB can't successfully run the full playbook and he'll dial it back accordingly. Evans is a perfect example last year, had that team had Tyrod, or probably even Brewer, I think we would'be seen a top 10 performance.
