I understand from a market standpoint why you picked Tulane

However, from an athletic standpoint Memphis may be the better option. It has an established basketball program which the basketball schools will find attractive. It has a football and basketball rivalry with L'ville which would give the ACC another passionate conference rivalry to market. Even though historically Memphis hasn't been strong in football, it seems Coach Fuente may have righted the ship there. At least Memphis is projected to finish 1st in the AAC West. Then there is the school's relationship with FedEx. No reason the ACC couldn't/shouldn't take advantage of the existing relationship to benefit the conference somehow.

On the women's side, it seems the Lady Tigers have a pretty good women's basketball team. Also, it appears Memphis may have a pretty good women's cross country team. At least the Lady Tigers finished 10th (out of 30 teams) in the NCAA South Region Championships last year. The only other female sport that Memphis may be known for is their spirit teams. At least it appears Memphis may make somewhat regular appearances at the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship.

Given the location, it may be close enough to help bridge the gap between the rest of the ACC and the OK/TX island. Also, since Memphis is public then it is has a better chance of expanding its enrollment and athletic fan base than Tulane. The ACC already has enough private universities so any future expansion should only involve public universities.
