For a long, long time Clemson has stressed giving.

They stressed giving with the IPTAY. I always knew it as "I Pay Thirty A Year". It may have even started with I Pay Ten A Year". But the point was encouraging everyone to donate something.

So there is a culture of giving, just to be a part of something.

At Tech, many years ago, the emphasis seemed to change to a selling basis. You give X amount, and you get these seats. You give X + Y amount, and you get these better seats. And it got to the point, that parking was a big driver of how much one paid per year. Pay more, get closer parking to Lane.

To sum up, Clemson folks have a culture of giving to be part of the program. VT folks has a culture of giving in order to get something.
