Great post which captures my sentiment as well.

I was embarrassed by Vick when I first heard about his involvement with dog fighting. It wasn't specifically dog fighting that embarrassed me as a Hokie alum, but the simple fact that he was a felon who in the past played football for Tech. I was especially embarrassed when talking to Eers, Hoos, Heels, Canes and Orangemen about the subject. It was a very vane and prideful point of view I had.

There were many that wanted to take any mention or picture of Vick down on any Tech facility at that time. I was one of the people carrying a pitchfork wanting the banishment of Vick.

But after time, I realized I was simply acting on impulse and emotion.... following the lemmings off the cliff to prevent the tarnishing of the school I love. After hearing Clinton Portis explain that Vick wasn't alone in the NFL as far as this matter was concerned, I started to see the issue in a different light. And as time went on, I realized his crime was well rooted in a culture I didn't understand.

Now, I'm not condoning anyone who has committed any felony, but Vick has done a lot of good for Tech and his community. He donated at least a million dollars to Tech. He spoeks to crrent football players offering sound advice regarding college life and athletics. He has a deep love for Tech. He is trying his best to make amends with his community, family and himself.

If anything, Vick should be disappointed in people like me. I went from his biggest fan to abandoning him in a heartbeat. He still supports Tech, even though many want him to disappear for anything Hokie related. He has paid and continues to pay his dues. There are plenty of other football, baseball and basketball HOFers who have committed crimes, cheated or had poor ethics... buth they're in there.

I think Vick deserves a spot.
