I don't have a problem including the Wood Brothers in that group.


Maybe the reason they aren't in that group is because I don't think either brother was ever a race car driver. Whereas Andretti, Earnhardt, Allison, Petty, etc. all started out as race car drivers before becoming owners. Even Roger Penske raced cars for about 4 years (1958-1962) before becoming a full time owner and I don't think he is considered one of the legendary families.

The other possibility is that neither of the Wood brothers or Penske had any children get into the "family business" by becoming race car drivers. At least that seems to be another common characteristic among these legendary families. Also, it could explain why legendary drivers (i.e. Cale Yarborough) from that era are not also considered to be a legendary family too.
