Reminds me of "Will Amazon ever be profitable?"
Amazon went almost 20 years never making any money until now where they are positioned to dominate retail. They have Walmart scared. Sears, JC Penny, K Mart are on the run. Mall Stores are in trouble. The industry is rapidly becoming online. Amazon is now making huge profits.
We're going through the transition to digital in television. I have confidence that Disney/ESPN will move to the new technology just fine. ESPN owns content people want to pay to see. They are not like the NY Times or newspapers like the author suggests. The NY Times doesn't own the news content. They have a ton of online competition for delivery of the news. You have to watch ESPN to see the content they own with media rights.
As we migrate to Streaming, ESPN will be there. They are the best horse to ride. Others may fall by the wayside, but it won't be ESPN that will look like Blockbuster, Tower Records, or Borders Books. It will be others. Amazon paved the way, along with eBay and others. Digital is not bleeding edge anymore.
