Well we had the same scenario last season

Yuge opening game at the Battle of Bristol. My recollection is the battle between JJ and Jerod went a little deeper in the month of August, and as we all know, the Hokies came out flat.

Bottom line is Fuente would have been hampering the preparation for the 'eer game, were AJ and JJ still splitting the first team snaps.

I'm all in now for JJ. Bush is a more mobile QB, but he has problems protecting football. At this point in his career, that isn't something you fix in two weeks.

Jackson proved himself to be the best, most prepared QB on the team at this point, and he deserves the honor of starting against West Virginia.

Once it became clear Jackson had the better all around skill set (and was far less likely to turn the ball over), Fuente had to end the competition and go all in to get JJ ready for the big time.

As I said before, I wonder if Fuente hurt the game prep for the Battle at Bristol last year by letting the competition go longer?
