I think that has something to do with it...

not WVU per se, but a ranked team to kick off the season, with a rFr starting QB. Then again, maybe it was the rFr starting QB, who needs more reps with the #1s. It's not just him... it's the young WRs, and them establishing chemistry with one QB.

Obviously winning the game is important, and this decision is Fuente's best option... but I do think the early announcement had as much to do with the supporting cast, as JJ separating himself.

It does sound like AJB may be too good to ride the bench, but how he contributes will be an interesting development.

I think the entire decision was specific to the situation VT was facing with personnel (experience) and facing a top 25 team in game 1. Jackson probably makes fewer mistakes, and has the right temperament that Fuente can count on. Fuente apparently thinks the young starters could benefit from structure and stability at the QB position, more than allowing the competition to continue another week.

I'm really not sure how much facing a top 25 team had in the early announcement of JJ as the starting QB. Seems like a minor decision making criteria, but significant enough to weigh.
