Roadbike upgrade feedback after 100 miles

A few items I'm really impressed with:

(1) Switching to SPD pedals. Best possible upgrade I can imagine!!!!! Not sure if they are just easier to "click into" than the old style "road bike pedals," or that I'm just used to using them on my mountain bike, but they are so much easier to get into! Getting out was a push between the two styles. Both released correctly, and only when I wanted to release. Still need to loosen the right pedal release, but it's fairly close to where I want it. I just installed them last night, and today was my first ride with them.

(2) Kool Stop brake pads. Great replacement option! They come with two sets of pads, one for dry & wet, and one for primarily wet only. I installed the dry/wet set. During dry conditions, it stops as good as any pad I've used, but was out in a misty/sprinkling day last week, and it felt like they actually performed better than in the dry. At the very least, they stopped 2X - 5X better than a standard brake pad in the wet. They are amazing!

(3) Installed a sealed bottom bracket. The old one (non-sealed) needed to be cleaned and repacked, but I wanted a "maintenance free" bearing set. The sealed unit doesn't require any maintenance. Easy install, and well worth the $25 investment.

(4) Gray (brand) rim-protective strips. Outstanding product!!!!! I'll install these on every bike I own!

The rest of the items (Michelin tires, Continental tubes, etc.) are working great, so the only feedback is they are worth the investment. I was a little worried about the Michelin tires (thin) being susceptible to punctures, but no problems after ~100 miles. I have a set of GatorSkins in the "on bat" circle, but I don't anticipate needing them until I wear the Michelins out.

How long do bicycle tires usually last, 1,000 miles? 2,000?

Overall I'm very happy with everything I've used/installed.

Next report should be when I upgrade the Shimano (old style) Uniglide hub to a Shimano (current style) Hyperglide hub. I saw this on the internet, so it has to work, right? :)

Ride free!
