Saturday night surfing. What could have been - Mike Tyson

I was a huge Mike Tyson fan, and was on his bandwagon before most knew anything about him. I remember watching a fight in Champions in Georgetown - the place was packed but nobody was paying any attention to the fight on the TV. The guy was on track to become the youngest heavy weight champion, but few were paying attention. He was fighting his way up, pretty much at a one fight per month pace. I also remember shelling out for two $100 tickets to see the instant Spinks destruction on the screen at Patriot Center, which may have been his peak.

I thought Tyson would go 100-0 and make a billion dollars.

If you watch the video linked, you see the guy that came into the ring with a torn, pancho like sweatshirt, black trunks, black shoes and no socks. He went about his business with little emotion, zero hoopla, respected his opponents, and respected the fight game. If you watch the video, you see the amazing cat-like skills, as he stays in the box, fearlessly slipping and rolling, until he connects with just legendary, devastating power.

Then Cus died and his life went to shambles. Maybe his is one of the craziest life stories ever.
