A few Tech wrestlers have come close to an individual National Championship, and Flo Wrestling is recognizing some of the best college wrestlers that never had the fortune to win it all. Through 141 so far, both Joey Dance and Devin Carter are on the short list. Ty Walz will certainly be mentioned prominently when Flo gets to the HWTs. Any other past Hokies who are likely to make the list of top 4-5 per weight w/o the national title? BTW, hoping someone like Haught can end that "best to never" run this year.

5) Joey Dance, Virginia Tech - 4, R12, R24, 5
From nearby Christiansburg High School, Joey Dance had his breakout year as a true freshman for the Virginia Tech Hokies, placing fourth as the No. 16 seed. Dance stumbled on his next two trips to the NCAAs, finishing off the podium as a sophomore and junior despite entering as the No. 3 and No. 2 seed, respectively. Dance got redemption in his senior season, still without the benefit of a redshirt season, by once again claiming All-American honors with a fifth-place finish in 2017.

3) Devin Carter, Virginia Tech - R12, 5, 2, 3
We may have mentioned this before, but it's difficult to win a wrestling bracket when you share it with Logan Stieber. Carter was Stieber's third NCAA finals victim in 2014. In 2015, Carter was denied a chance for revenge when he was upended by North Carolina State's Kevin Jack in the quarterfinals. The Christiansburg, Virginia, native came back to beat Oklahoma State's Dean Heil in the third-place bout, motivating Heil to win the next two NCAA tournaments at the same weight class and possibly a third this season, perpetuating the never-ending cycle of heartache and disappointment that is 141 pounds.
