The problem with football at UVA was the meddling of John Oliver, the associate AD, rather than Craig Littlepage so much. However, Littlepage let it go on for too long. UVA fans are happy to see Oliver leave. He left a couple of weeks ago. We were expecting Littlepage to retire, so that's not a surprise.

UVA needs to first hire the next President. That person will be important in what is done next. I'd like to see the new President hire a strong athletic director who will focus on football as well as fundraising. UVA has announced a significant capital campaign for athletics that includes a new football operations center, retrofit of the existing one for another sport or two like lacrosse or soccer, the baseball stadium expansion and operations center that moves the coaches and team to permanent homes in the stadium, a new outdoor tennis complex at the boar's head, a new golf clubhouse that moves the coaches and team to a new home, and an expansion of the softball stadium. All of these total over $100 million. I'd like to see the new AD bring these projects to successful completion.

Beyond these existing projects, I'd like to see a new AD with a vision to continue to improve the football situation as well as keeping the overall athletic department strong. One of my personal desires is to do something with University Hall that keeps it functional. I don't know if that's a new Gymnastics Team, Hockey Team, etc. But I'd like to see it used for something. Littlepage wanted it demolished and an indoor track and field facility in its place. I could live with that, but I'm a preservationist at heart that likes to see old facilities refurbished.
