If the ACC is going to a rotating pod system
then you don't think most coaches/ADs/Presidents would be in favor of 2 fixed pods and 2 rotating pods instead of rotating 3 pods?
By structuring the pods that way it ensures that teams from NC and north will always play 1 FL school and 1 SC/GA school every year. Plus, if there is more support for the zipper model to be used within the pods, then I would think Clemson, GT, FSU, and Da U would be split up among the 4 pods. So unless Da U is willing to be partnered with GT, then FSU wouldn't be able to play Clemson every year as a conference game because it would be alternating games between Clemson and GT.
I think FSU could live with that because either the President, AD, or Jimbo has been on the record indicating he wished FSU played GT more often. I don't think enough schools would support a purely geographical based pods because the pods would probably look like this:
Pod A: BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame
Pod B: WVU, L'ville, VT, UVA
Pod C: Wake, Duke, UNC, NC State
Pod D: Clemson, GT, FSU, Da U
The pairings would probably look like this: AD and BC. The downside to these pairings is the Backyard Brawl can't be played every year unless you switch Pitt and L'ville. The Textile Bowl can't be played every year because NC State isn't in Pod A or Clemson isn't in Pod B. UVA won't be able to play Duke every year. I am not even sure a hybrid regional/zipper model can work without sacrificing a potential rivalry game. If something has to give, then I would think the ACC would want to do the "fairest" thing for everyone which is probably a zipper model within each pod.
