Yep. It was a win-win for both Buzz and VT.

Buzz needed a safe harbor after what was going on at Marquette. A place that would give him a few years to regroup, would not have unreasonably high expectations, yet in a visible enough league/location that he wouldn't be forgotten when the next high-profile job opportunity came his way.

VT needed to prove- right away- that we actually gave a crap about hoops, and that our new AD was someone that coaches would be happy working for. You can't underestimate the incredible damage our previous AD did to our basketball brand after the SG firing and JJ hiring.

So, it's worked out great for both of us. Buzz has won very quickly at a place that was viewed as a hoops graveyard. He's probably a more attractive candidate now for a big-time job than he would have been right after leaving Marquette.

VT is now viewed as an up-and-coming hoops program and were Buzz to leave, we would have no problem attracting a Fuente-type younger coach who might view us as more of a destination job.

I'll understand completely if Buzz does leave and I expect he will in the next few years. In the meantime I'll just enjoy the ride and be grateful to Buzz and Whit for what they have accomplished here.
