I think many fans

Have a great passion for Virginia Tech and want coaches to feel that same passion. Many want to believe that coaches come to Virginia Tech because they love the school and community and it will be their home and final resting place. But basketball coaches are in a very dispassionate business and we just can't expect them to have the same passion for places that alumni and fans do. It just isn't realistic in my opinion. The Boeheims, K's, Calhouns of the world represent 2-3% at best of coaches. Everyone else is abundantly aware that coaches have about a 5-7 year shelf life. Many don't get that long. Coaching is a vagabond by nature and a nomadic existance.

Virginia Tech isn't a destination for coaches. The vast majority of coaches make decisions based on upward mobility, more pay, lengthier contracts. Many decide to leave simply because they know they are about to wear out their welcome. Some might want to coach in specific conferences, some might even want certain areas of the country for personal reasons. But their decisions almost always involve dispassionate reasons.

Expecting anything else is just not realistic in my opinion. It's a very cold, hard business and coaches need to grasp that a very young age or they won't survive.

I Don't expect passion and love myself from coaches in a business where they have to be dispassionate as a means of survival.
