Need suggestiins for Palm Springs, CA hotel.

Wife and I will be in Palm Springs for 2 or 3 days in October. Never been to that part of CA but will be visiting Joshua Tree National Park. Looking for a good place to stay, restaurants, and recommendations for things to do.
