I get the cable box factor for Rutgers. However, I do wonder

if the Big Ten really saw that much of a bump in revenue with Rutgers given that the BTN was already being broadcasted in NY and NJ prior to Rutgers becoming a member. At times I do wonder if the conferences are really playing a shell game when trying to justify how much additional revenue they receive because of School X to keep from admitting they aren't really earning that much more because of School X and it may have been a mistake to add School X. It may be even more of a shell game if School X is from a state/region that already has a member.

If the conferences remain the status quo in terms of how they do business, then I do agree with you it is unlikely they will cut the dead weight. However, if the conferences start to shift to more a NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB-like model (all rolled up into 1) and pool their resources when it comes to media contracts, then I could see them cut the dead weight to get down to a smaller and more manageable number. Keep in mind that it is possible the school (not the conferences) end up driving these decisions.
