ODU Talent Level (long)

CC had a good overview of the ODU talent level versus VT, especially the reference that no member of the ODU team ever received a VT offer (even though there are 54 Virginians on their squad). Looking for another comparison, I wanted to look at ECU versus ODU. The 247 website (linked) offers a ton of recruiting information and I am using that info for my analysis. These numbers are based upon recruiting rankings and have nothing to do with on-field performance. There is a calculation as to overall team talent. This calculation is basically the average rating (based upon 100 being the best) of the entire roster. Average talent level:
1) Alabama 93.33
33) VT 85.65
78) ECU 80.62
110) ODU 78.32

As can be seen, the talent level at ODU is a significant step down from ECU. These talent levels are mostly mirrored in the average recruiting rankings for the past 5 years:
1) Alabama
29) VT
80) ECU
110) ODU

Further, VT has 78 players who were a 3 or 4 star (11 + 67), ECU has 40 (3+37) while ODU only has 18 (0 + 18). Forget Bama, they have 69 4 or 5 stars.

Bottom line, ODU has a talent level that falls into the bottom 10% of FBS schools. We should crush them. On the other hand, their talent level is higher at ODU than Delaware. One last factoid to throw out, Liberty #152 in the talent ratings (only one 3-star player), won at #35 Baylor (74 3 or 4 stars).
