More input than just a focus group should have been conducted. The change from VPI to VPI&SU in my freshman year was much more involved. We students were every one allowed to vote on what the new name would be. So were alums. The vote then came down to Va Tech University, Va Tech, VPI&SU, University of Va Tech, and a few others that I'm too old to recall. Many, many were involved and the BOV selected the one that had the most preference. This selection caught a lot of people by surprise, I'll agree.
