supposed to be an interim coach, and CU was doing a search. CU was a good program but FAR removed from the NC conversation at that point - he took over from Tommy Bowden I believe, who had resigned after ten years of mostly 8-4 type seasons.
Dabo took over and within a couple of seasons started to really bring in a lot of blue-chip recruits.
I'm sure recruiting for him is easier now, but to be fair he changed the game for them and took their recruiting to another level, when all he really had to sell was himself and a "pretty good" program.
