I believe 'Bama's AD at the time had a connection to Duke
which may also explain why 'Bama threw Duke a bone. However, as a VT fan, it bothered me that Duke could get "mighty 'Bama" to agree to play a home-home series, but VT got to play a "home-home" (TIC) with 'Bama in Hotlanta (aka the 2 CFA Kickoff Games). It is sad to think that 1969 may be the only time 'Bama steps foot on Lane to play a game.
Then again, that is more than Army which has never played a game against VT in Blacksburg or even Roanoke. I know a game against Army now is pointless because it doesn't benefit VT in any way. However, there is a part of that would love to see all 3 academies playing in Lane on Military Appreciation Day at some point in the future.
