Clemson has always spent heavily on recruiting and facilities.

But suggesting that location is the reason I believe is not quite correct. You can look at SC (USC) and say the same thing, or GT, or Duke/UNC/NCST etc.

IMO, Clemson is organized by their alumni base relationships to recruit versus their coaching ties. Their work with the coaches on all levels of coaching (pee-wee to HS) where they build relationships via clinics & workshops to provide answers and discussions for any & all aspects of coaching, training, practices etc.
