This is a tired excuse that has no basis in reality. When you factor in

the population size of the United States as compared to the other CONCACAF countries, we have far more people that "care" about soccer. We also have way more talent in our player pool than every CONCACAF country other than Mexico and we also have vastly more resources.

I can somewhat get behind your point if you want to compare us with the elite soccer nations like Germany, Spain and Brazil, but that argument is absurd when thinking about CONCACAF. We should be qualifying for the World Cup with no issues whatsoever. This qualifying cycle was an embarrassment of epic proportions and last night was an abomination.

Also, the best soccer players in the world are generally 6'0 and under. The idea that you take our explosive athletes from the NBA and NFL and make them into soccer players is silly. We might be missing out on some epic goalie talent, but you don't need to be 6'8 and have a 40 inch vertical to be good at soccer. It's as much about technique at the highest level as athleticism. The United States is massively lacking in the technique department for whatever reason.
