With the lottery, any student who wants, or even thinks they want a ticket, can put in for one, and they may get one.

They have nothing invested in that ticket, so on game day, if they feel like staying in their room, or going down to the lake, they can, because they have nothing invested in the ticket.

In the old days, when students had to stand in line early, in the rain or cold or heat, and they got a ticket, they actually did something to get it, and they really, really wanted to go to the game.
