We were still the 2nd place finisher in the Big East to Syracuse (who we had beaten) that year. After beating Miami to get to 5-1 in the conference, we thought we were going to be the Big East Champs with only a sub .500 Pitt team remaining.

That was just a VT team that limped down the stretch, including the loss at Pitt, the home loss to UVA with the huge Aaron Brooks comeback, and the destruction in the Gator Bowl at the hands of UNC to conclude the season.
