I was in Morgantown for the TX Tech game this past weekend
I'm originally from Princeton, have a friend in Morgantown that I graduated high school with and another that travels in once a year for games. They know I don't want to be there to watch WVU football (they reciprocated last year and came down for Miami and had a great time) but it's always great to get together and I'm just a football fan in general. So with VT on bye, it just worked out well.
I've paid attention the last few times I was there how much better behaved the fans have seemed. Granted it wasn't Hokies or Panthers walking around, but the TX Tech fans I saw walking around were all being treated really well. Honestly the vibe the entire morning tailgating felt no different than at VT.
It seems they have put some effort into improving their game day atmosphere for opposing fans. At one point some kids that looked like students brought around cards listing expected etiquette ... similar to the Hokie Respect campaign. I know, shouldn't have to happen. But at least it is ...
I'm sure it's not perfect there, nowhere is. Sorry Daisy but I have to hate WVU. That's what a rival is after all, right? I don't care that I was born in WV, I'm a Hokie through and through. But I do respect WVU athletics and their similarities to us. Time will tell ... certainly 2021 will ... if it's safe for us to go to Morgantown to a game again. I know many never will again due to past experience and I completely get that. But I, for one, hope it's the same event I saw Saturday. Everyone involved would benefit from this rivalry re-igniting. Just my humble opinion.
