The author writes what a lot of women feel.

I agree with her. As a 58 yr old woman, I have lived a lot of what she describes.

A couple of examples:

I was one of a very small handful of women in my finance classes at VT. There were some classes where I was the only woman. I did it all by myself. No study groups. I was thrilled to be asked to be in a study group once but when I got to the guy's apartment there was no group. He says "just you and me baby". I left.

And I know most men liked Econ Prof. Mandelstamm. I felt uncomfortable in his class though because he would always point out the women (maybe 5 out of a class of 50). Class was held in a lecture room and oftentimes I'd sit in the hallway just outside the open door where he couldn't see me. His class was required by all business majors and by the third quarter I'd had enough and just signed up for the televised version.

Early in my career, I became manager of marketing at a large insurance company. I had the biggest budget of any department ($6M) by far. After a short time on the job I found out that my peers, all men, were making 20% more, and had other perks such as reserved parking. That was not sexual harassment, but was discrimination. My bosses never propositioned me at work but that's because I always made it very clear that I wouldn't tolerate it. They did other women though. Those women got ahead. I didn't. Because of that, I left and started my own business, and have been working mostly on my own since. I have let a lot of stuff roll off my back over the years and I'm tired of it.

I have a daughter going to graduate college soon and hope things are better for her. I'm glad people are talking about it now.
