I agree a live performance would be cool to see.


However, logistically it may be somewhat difficult to pull off for a game. If the stage is set up somewhere on the field, then the kickoff will be delayed while Metallica finishes the song and the stage is torn down. If the stage is set up on the practice field and broadcasted on the jumbotron, then would Metallica be "thrilled" to perform 1 song "off stage?" What about only performing the intro (on the game field or practice field) like what Brent Bowden did his SR year (via a video)?

If Metallica is going to play the intro and then do a full concert afterwards, then that could be done for the Spring Game. Metallica plays the intro as the entire team runs through the tunnel. The stage could be set up near the SEZ, so the Spring Game would only be played on half the field and serve as the "opening act." Once the game is over, then Metallica comes back out and does a full concert.
