On top of that, lost rivalries aren't easily recaptured either.


When two schools get together after a long layoff, it's not always like old times. The great thing about a rivalry is that they play every year. One class to the next. The people who played in this year's WVU-VT never played against each other and likely won't play against each other again.

And then there is the fans. If they are forced to live without, they might realized that when it comes back, they don't really need it.

I hope I'm wrong, but there is a sense here that college football, with the end of big rivalries, has killed the golden goose.
